Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how Timetide collects, uses, and safeguards your information when you use our iOS app. By using the App, you acknowledge the practices described in this policy.
No Account Required: You do not need to create an account to use Timetide.
Your schedule data — semesters, subjects, lessons, and your student profile — is stored only on your device using SwiftData. iCloud sync is off by default. On first launch, Timetide asks whether you are new or setting up a new device: new users keep data local; returning users can enable sync before creating anything, so existing data downloads first. When enabled, data syncs privately via your iCloud private database. We have no access to this data. It is structurally impossible for us to read it.

Timetide publishes an annual community Year in Review — aggregate trends across participating students. Participation is entirely opt-in. If you do not turn it on, no data ever leaves your device for this purpose.
If you opt in, the following data is sent to our servers:
The following is never sent: your name, Apple ID or email, device model or hardware identifiers, location, lesson notes, or any data from outside Timetide.
To prevent duplicate entries, the app generates a random UUID the first time you opt in. This UUID is per user, not per device — it is stored in iCloud Key-Value Store, a separate always-on iCloud mechanism that works independently of the app's iCloud sync setting. This means it carries over automatically to a new device on the same iCloud account, with no action required. It has no connection to your identity and cannot be traced back to you. A new UUID is only generated if you sign into a different iCloud account, in which case previously contributed data becomes permanently orphaned — there is no way to identify or remove it.
Profile fields are stored as aggregate counters only — the server tracks how many students belong to each value, not a list of individuals. Stats are stored as one anonymous row per UUID per year, always reflecting your latest state. See timetide.eu/your-data for the full technical breakdown.
We use PostHog (EU-hosted) for anonymous product analytics. Events captured include app opens, onboarding steps, and actions like creating a semester, subject, or lesson, and starting a Live Activity. No personal information is included in any event — not your name, school, faculty, student type, subject names, or lesson content.
PostHog assigns its own anonymous distinct_id (a random UUID) to each device on first launch. This is separate from the community data UUID and is used only to deduplicate events in aggregate metrics. It has no connection to your identity.
Lesson reminders are scheduled entirely on-device using iOS's local notification system. They are never sent to or from Timetide's servers — no network request is made when a notification is delivered. Notification permission can be revoked at any time in iOS Settings.
No Personal Identifiers: We do not collect your name, email address, device ID, or location data.
Personal schedule data: Stored locally on your device via SwiftData and, if enabled, synced via your iCloud private database. We have no access to this data and it never reaches our servers.
Community data (opt-in): If you participate in the Community Year in Review, anonymous stats and profile counters are stored on our EU-hosted servers (Supabase, Frankfurt). Data is keyed only to a random UUID with no link to your identity.
Security: We implement industry-standard security measures to protect data stored on our servers.
Supabase: Used to store community Year in Review data. Hosted in the EU (Frankfurt). Data stored is anonymous — keyed to a random UUID only. Supabase is GDPR-compliant. See supabase.com/privacy.
PostHog: Used for anonymous app usage analytics. PostHog is GDPR-compliant and offers EU data residency. No schedule data is involved.
Personal schedule data: Stored on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app. iCloud data is managed via your iCloud account and can be removed through iOS Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → Manage Storage.
Community data: Retained indefinitely as anonymous aggregate counts and per-UUID rows to power annual Year in Review publications. If you opt out, syncing stops immediately. Data already synced cannot be removed as it is no longer linked to any identifiable device after deletion.
Analytics data: Retained per PostHog's data retention policy, configurable per project.
Under GDPR, your rights differ depending on which data is involved.
This data never reaches us. You have full control over it on your device and in iCloud. You can delete it at any time by deleting the app or clearing your iCloud data via iOS Settings — no request to us is needed or possible.
You can stop participation at any time in Settings → Community Year in Review. Syncing stops immediately.
Community data is stored under a random UUID with no identity link. We cannot identify which entry is yours, so we cannot provide a copy of it.
Because data is anonymous and not linked to any identity, we have no way to locate and delete a specific individual's contribution from the aggregate.
We deliberately collect only what is needed for the Year in Review, strip all identifiers before transmission, and store profile fields as counters only — not individual records.
Analytics are anonymous and contain no personal information. An opt-out is not currently configurable in-app. If you have concerns, contact us and we can discuss options.
Your personal schedule data is accessible and visible in-app at all times. Export features (e.g. Calendar export) are planned for a future release. Cross-device access is available today via iCloud sync.
